Sallent Features / Some facts about “Soazkhwani”
★ The literal meaning of Soazkhwani is sorrow or smoulder.
★ It is allegorical attribution to the martyrdom of Imam Husain (A.S.), his companions & agony thereof.
★ There are only three basic vocal fine arts of Islam/Muslims: Qirat, Qawwali & Soazkhwani.
★ Its beginning can be traced to three centuries back in this subcontinent (especially in Lucknow & its surroundings/U.P.).
★ In Soazkhwani classical poetry of Urdu is mostly used as the medium thereof.
★ Since its inception nobody cared, discovered & compiled certain rules & regulations of this art. The infrastructure is made/designed by Prof. Sibt-i-Jaafar.
★ Soazkhwani has its own code of conduct, unique to its age old civilization & Islamic culture & has its own phraseology.
★ The melody & its practice is needed or required in performance of the common arts. Whereas soazkhwani needs the pathos & pains of the incident in a touching & moving style.
★ It is a deliberate attempt according to the existing situation where message occupies the priority than the art & craft (where the message comes first & the art after words).
★ In its compositions of “Ragas” there has been clear contradictions among the “Ragees” (Classical Masters), because no clear, identified, categorized (Shudh Raag/Raagnees) are used in Soazkhwani. It does maintain the real effect of “Raga”, but excludes the irrelevant.
★ Technically the singer (Performer, Composer/Soazkhwan) is a competent, experienced & trained professional/ skilled person, who is entitled “Ustaad”. He is an adept hand, who exercises all the facets of rhythmic meters and knows all the intonations of the lyre.
Prof. S. Sibt-I-Jaafar Zaidi (1957 - 2006)
★ After withdrawal from C.S.S. & advocacy, Prof. S. Sibt-i-Jaafar Zaidi is serving in a Govt. College of Karachi (as Associate Prof./BS-19).
★ He has visited 16 countries as Poet, Scholar & Soazkhwan.
★ More than 50 Audio-Video cassettes & CDS’ have been prepared & released by various, reputed companies (all over the world and also available on various web-sites).
★ More than 10 books of professor, have been published on various topics esp. Pak Studies for Intermediate & Degree Classes, Sociology for degree classes, Nishaan-e-Raah, Zaad-e-Raah, Muntakhabaat-e-Nazm-o-Nasr, Sauti Uloom-o-Funoon-e-Islami & Bastah. etc.
★ He is founder & Leading Master / Instructor (Ustaad) & Performer of traditional, Classical Soazkhwani & Founder of “I.T.S.” and admired/ recognized by Harvard University & Columbia University of U.S.A., He is being telecasted & broadcasted by the national & international electronic media since 1967 as Naatkhwan, Soazkhwan, Writer/Author, Composer, Scholar & Comperer etc.
